KHARTOUM, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete held closed-door talks with his Sudanese counterpart Omer al-Bashir here Sunday on the situation in the troubled western Sudanese region of Darfur.
The two heads of state started the talks at the Khartoum Friendship Hall in the Sudanese capital after the arrival of Kikwete, who is also the current chairman of the African Union (AU).
Undersecretary of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry Mutrif Sadiq told reporters that the talks were concentrated on the latest developments in Darfur.
The two leaders also discussed the position of the Sudanese government over the recent demand of a prosecutor of the International Criminal Courts to summon the Sudanese president, Sadiq added.
According to Sudanese officials, the talks also dealt with the deployment of AU and UN peacekeepers in Darfur as well as the means to resolve the crisis in the region.
The Tanzanian president will have more meetings with Sudanese leaders before leaving Khartoum on Monday.
