Kenya to train South Sudan civil servants |

Written by Steve Mbogo |
The reconstruction of South Sudan will involve efforts to plug the skills gap caused by its two decade civil war November 10, 2008: The Kenya government will spend part of Sh250 million it pledged to donate for reconstruction of South Sudan to train at least 2,800 civil servants in a bid to equip the nascent semi-autonomous country’s government personnel with public sector management skills.
Kenya made the pledge for the donation in 2005 when donors from across the world met in Oslo, Norway to commit money for reconstruction of the region that had just emerged from a 20-year civil war.
The civil servants are being trained in various Kenyan colleges and given attachment opportunities for on-the-job training in institutions with links to the government.
Kenya has so far emerged as South Sudan’s big brother, since it helped broker the comprehensive peace agreement that brought an end to 20-year conflict between it and then Sudan’s Islamic government based in Khartoum. |
