Ethiopian troops arrive in Darfur
Al-Fashir, Aug. 16 (SUNA)- The joint United Nations and African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) received Saturday at Al-Fashir Airport the first batch of the Ethiopian troops, who numbered 114 personnel, including 15 field engineers. Receiving the first batch from the Ethiopian Engineering Corps, the deputy chairman of UNAMID welcomed the Ethiopian troops, referring to their role in building roads, bridges and construction of camps. He pointed out that the mission is looking forward for arrival of the helicopters from UN member states. Commenting on the incident of the aggression on a plane of the joint mission by the Justice and Equality Movement last week, he said that it is an unacceptable act, pointing out that the mission submitted a memo of protest of the incident to the concerned bodies. Deputy chief of staff of the joint mission pointed out that the arrival of the troops affirms the commitment of Ethiopia to contribute to realization of peace in Darfur. BT/BT
