SADC COUNTRIES’ URGE TO ACCEPT INDEPENDENCE OF SOUTH SUDAN
A campaign to raise awareness regarding the referendum process in Sudan has been launched in South Africa. The campaign’s aim is to inform and urge South Africans, particularly the government, to “accept imminent independence of South Sudan as a State,” says Atem Dhal Geu, Chair of the South Sudan Referendum Campaign in South Africa. “South Sudan is becoming, if not already, a viable State. We need the economic and technological support of South Africa to boost development and post-war rebuilding of South Sudan.”
Dhal Geu, said, he strongly believes immediate recognition of South Sudan independence by South Africa and the world at large will assist to reduce outbreak of armed conflict and cement peaceful coexistence and stability of Sudan.
“It is wrong to say South Sudan is doomed to fail as a state should its people choose separation,” said Atem Dhal Geu. “Separation should be seen as a better solution for Sudan. Unity of Dr John Garang has vanished; and the Unity promoted by National Congress Party (NCP) is senseless since it is based on the permanent quest to oppress our people.”
South Sudanese Community in Southern Africa have pledged their full support for the Referendum Campaign initiative. All advocate for acceptance of South Sudan as a new promising African state.
South Sudan Referendum Campaign in South Africa is carrying out advocacy and lobbying to influence Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries to prepare to accept and support evolvement South Sudan as a free and stable nation-state.
