ALLAHABAD: In a major development, a team of
Civil Lines police on Tuesday arrested a person identified as
Shashi Kant Upadhyaya, a resident of Jaunpur and seized foreign currency including Sudanese pound and Guyanese dollar from his possession. The arrest was made near Civil Lines crossing when he was plotting to dispose it off. The police have seized around 250 banned tablets from his possession and a case under NDPS Act was also registered in this regard.
Civil Lines Police told TOI that the arrested youth had somehow managed to get 46 denominations of 50 sudanese pound and 10 denomination of 100 Guyanese dollars and wanted to sell it in Sangam city.
Acting upon a tip off, the police team had arrested when he was waiting for a customer. Police said that the arrested youth had neither passport or document and even failed to narrate as how he be able to get the foreign currency.
Inspector, Civil Lines told TOI: "We have been interrogating the arrested youth to ascertain as to how the youth has brought the currency in city and motive behind it. In preliminary investigations, it came to light that the youth had an intention to earn profit by selling the Sudanese pound and Guyanese dollars.
