President Al-Bashir Acquainted with African Green Belt Project
Khartoum, Oct. 27 (SUNA)- President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, received in his office at the Secretariat General of the Council of Ministers Wednesday the State Minister at the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Physical Development, Ustaza Fadwa Shaway, and reviewed the performance of the ministry
President Al-Bashir was also acquainted with the Green Belt project which will extend from Senegal in west Africa till Djibouti in eastern Africa - the agreement on its implementation was signed by 14 African countries in last September in Chad
Ustaza Fadwa said that the Green Belt will include Darfur states and extends till the Blue Nile at an area of 1533 hectares
She referred to the ongoing efforts for approval of the agreement by making Sudan as the headquarters of the Green Belt project
She explained that establishment of the Green Belt project aims to the conservation of environment and combating desertification
The minister also referred to the economic importance of the Green Belt for growing Hashab and Talih trees for production of gum arabic and boosting Sudan's financial resources
