South Self Determination referendum
A Statement from JEM
JEM reaffirms - through its legislative, executive institutions, and its popular and military grounds - its full and absolute support to the right of self-determination as provided in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and strongly calls for the Referendum to be held in a timely manner without delay.
JEM sees no contradiction between its support for the Referendum and its position in favor of a united Sudan that is founded on justice, equality and rule of law. JEM understands it is the callousness of Al Bashir’s criminal regime that has driven many of our fellow countrymen and women of the South to lose faith in united Sudan where can live with dignity, honour and equality. JEM respects decision the Southern people and if necessary will facilitate peaceful and amicable separation of the South.
JEM deplores Khartoum’s arming of militias and warns against continuation of actions disruptive to the legitimate Self Determination process in Southern Sudan.
