A $360 million loan from Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and
Social Development will help Sudan to finance a new airport, and also
two dams which boost power supplies and irrigate farmland.
Of the loan, $175 million will go to building the Atbara and Seteet
dams in Kassala state which, on branches of the Blue Nile, will help to
irrigate farmland and generate a combines 200 megawatts.
The $10 million not spend on the dams and airport has been earmarked
to fund water projects in Kassala, Al-Qadaref and Red Sea state, and the
financing is expected to benefit Sudan both socially and economically.
