Facebook grief over Sudanese student's death

Thursday, January 28th, 2010 12:49:00

PETALING JAYA: The mysterious death of Sudanese student Nadir Mohd Al-Fatih has generated an outpouring of grief among his peers, both here and overseas.

A Facebook group set up in his memory has seen more than 50 postings by friends who offered their condolences and related their fondest memories of him.

Nadir, 23, died after he fell from his 17th floor apartment at Damansara Perdana Condominium in Damansara Perdana here early Tuesday morning. He had been pursuing his studies at Segi College Damansara.

A friend, Wisam Gangari who lives in the US, wrote Nadir was "one of a kind, had a heart made of gold, was always there when you needed him and was truly one of the best people you could ever know. We love you Nadir, you'll never be forgotten".

Another, Hiba Mahgoub wrote: "I still can't believe that you're gone, you're an amazing person, an amazing friend, a good brother and it's just too sad not to be able to see you again, but you're in my heart forever and I will pray for you every day of my life. You will always have a special place in my heart".

An acquaintance of Nadir's, who preferred to be known only as Hussein, told The Malay Mail that he was a nice and easy-going person.

"We were not that close but we met on a few occasions. He was a nice guy who behaved well. I don't think he had any enemies. I was shocked to hear the news," Hussein said.

Petaling Jaya district police chief, ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said they have not ruled out any possibilities and were waiting for post-mortem results.

He added there were no signs of assault or alcohol in the victim's apartment.

Police also confirmed that no arrests had been made.

Nadir's body will be flown to his family living in Dubai after investigations are completed.

Yesterday, The Malay Mail online reported that the body of a male Sudanese student was found on the ground floor of the common area of an apartment block in Damansara Perdana.

In the 3.30am incident on Tuesday, Nadir's half-naked body had serious head injuries caused by the impact of his fall.

Nadir had been sharing an apartment with a fellow Sudanese who was said to be out of town when the incident occurred.

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the nearest police station.
