Are you trying to execuse what NIF did as a reaction (or revenge) for what someone before them did? Is it the way modern civilisations work?
No one can deny the horrors of Abba island and Sadiq al-Mahdi had the chance to redress the issue but he chose to concentrate on the one aspect of the murder of Imam al-Hadi al-Mahdi. I believe al-Ansar should direct their anger towards the person who put his hands into the hands of the Chief butcher Nimeiri in 1977 and then failed to activate the courts to find justice while he was at the top of the system. If that was done surely NIF would have not behaved in such a horrible manner as they would have remembered the consequences.
Also during the time (86-89) Nifers did not pursue their grievances through the legal system (especially when Turabi was Attorney General) so let us be honest about this failure. Was this because no one tortured them or because they prefered the rule of the jungle (revenge) to due legal process? Can the NIFers point to a single person tortured by them as a torturer of the NIFers during the period May 69 - July 71? After all they also tortured Nugdalla and Bagadi from Umma, and scores of others who were always at odd with the communist party.
Attrocities by one group are not justification for more attrocities by another group.
And please do not blame anything I said here on the communists as I am not a member of that party and my comments are personal response.
