Quote: Dear Shams Eldein,,
I am writing on behalf of The Mosaic Institute (www.mosaicinstitute.ca) to invite you to participate in a conference that we are convening at the University of Winnipeg on behalf of Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT). Entitled "Sudanese-Canadians and the Future of Sudan", this small, invitation-only conference on Thursday, September 2, 2010 is part of an ongoing set of discussions that DFAIT has been and will continue holding with members of the Sudanese community across Canada. This particular event will afford a unique opportunity for community leaders from different parts of Canada, as well as from different regional, tribal, political, religious and linguistic groups of Sudan, to come together in one room at one time to discuss the present and future realities in Sudan and their implications for Canada. You have been selected to attend and participate in this conference because of the respected role you play within the broader Sudanese community in Canada.
In addition to keynote addresses by senior officials of DFAIT, this one-day conference will feature a number of panel sessions featuring presentations from both government officials and community representatives, as well as moderated roundtable sessions addressing topics of direct and timely relevance to Canadian priorities and interests with respect to Sudan. Key topics to be addressed will include:
- Key Challenges to Development in Sudan - Canada and Sudan after the 2011 Referendum - Human Rights & Conflict: Darfur and Beyond; and - The Sudanese-Canadian Diaspora and Canada's Role in Sudan.
Please note that DFAIT will issue a "travel letter" to you if you accept this invitation, which will reimburse the cost of your travel to Winnipeg and your overnight hotel accommodation. However, that you will be required to pay for your own flight and hotel costs up front, and then submit the proper receipts to DFAIT before receiving reimbursement several weeks after the conference. Unfortunately, neither DFAIT nor the Mosaic Institute is in a position to pay for your travel and accommodation costs up front.
If you are interested in attending and participating in the "Sudanese-Canadians and the Future of Sudan" conference on September 2, please reply to our Consultant on Sudan, Mr. Mahgoub S. Khair, by direct e-mail at [email protected], or contact him by phone at 416-644-6000, ext. 670. Please be so kind as to reply to this invitation as soon as possible, but in any event by no later than Monday, July 26.
Yours very truly,
John Monahan Executive Director The Mosaic Institute 2 Bloor Street West Suite 3400 Toronto ON M4W 3E2 tel. 416.644.6000 x620 cell. 416.371-5507 fax. 416.644.6001 email.
