Since South Sudan proclaimed independence on the 9th July 2011; there has been increasing demand from citizens to improve quality of programming on the South Sudan Radio and TV (SSR&TV). The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting however acknowledges the shortcomings and poor performances mainly on the SSTV, which sparked recent wider public criticism.

The Ministry has prepared plans and steps to be taken immediately in order to improve performance on the SSTV. Hon. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Minister of Information, has revealed this in a meeting held yesterday 11th Jan 2012 at Ministry’s HQs Conference Hall. The meeting, which was attended by the top management and senior staff of the SSR&TV, discussed issues pertaining to performances and constraints facing each and every directorate and how to resolve them.

According to Hon. Marial, SSTV is a public institution; it faces a lot of challenges like any other public institution in the new Republic of South Sudan. As a result, the Ministry will be committed to addressing all the challenges facing the national TV station. He said what comes out on private media often misrepresents facts because of ignorance on the side of journalists who don’t cross check to balance their stories.
