Qatar agrees to fund joint free zone along Sudanese - Eritrean border

Kassala, Feb. 7 (SUNA)- The Wali (governor) of Kassala State, Mohamed Yousif, announced that the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, has agreed to fund the Joint Free and Industrial Zone in Awad area of Sudan and Adibrah of Eritrea at the border between the two countries. 

This came at a press conference he held Tuesday to shed light on the outcome of his recent visit to Qatar at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, saying that visit was very fruitful and will have positive outcome in the near future. 
He explained that his meeting with the Emir of Qatar discussed a number of issues of a special importance to his state, particularly the implementation of development projects.
He said that the Emir of Qatar gave directives for establishing the joint free zone according to an agreement reached between Sudan and Eritrea under the auspices of the Sudanese and Eritrean leaderships. 

The Wali enumerated the positive consequences from establishment of the joint free zone, mainly on the movement of trade, affirming that his state is very stable and free from any security threats. 

Meanwhile, he said that his state is maintaining coordination with Eritrea, adding that Kassala State's security Committee is following up and addressing any security issues. 

The Wali revealed that Sudan Embassy in Doha has set up a special committee to follow up and to prepare for execution projects. 
He said that his state has allocated lands for the free zone and would enhance further its cooperation with Eritrea. 

The Wali said that he held meetings with a number of Qatari companies, top of them were Hasad Agricultural and Barwa Real Estate Companies to discuss the possibility of establishing tourism projects in Kassala State, including a camel racing area that will be established according to the international standards. 

Mohamed Yousif said that he met the Sudanese Community in Doha as well as the members of Sudan Embassy and briefed them on the latest developments in Sudan, focusing on his State.
