Kalma internally displaced persons camp (IDP) has now spent four months without access to food assistance, following a disagreement between camp residents and the World Food Programme (WFP).
The WFP said it needed to re-register Kalma IDPs as it has done at other camps, to update its lists which it claims are long over due.
It said children have been born at the camp, some residents may have passed away, and new lists would enable them to efficiently distribute food.
Kalma residents were reluctant to re-register, as negative experiences have caused mistrust amongst IDPs of international organisations.
Camp leaders worried registration would be used as an instrument of pressure to make IDPs return to their villages.
However, camp representatives told Radio Dabanga, six out of eight sectors of the camp are willing to sign up to the registration process. The final two are currently in consultation, and expected to deliver their final decisions soon.
The representatives will wait for all sectors to be on board, and then ask the WFP to begin registration and approve an operation to provide aid to the area.
UNAMID chief told to avoid engagements with President Bashir
The head of the joint UN/African Union Mission in Darfur Ibrahim Gambari has been criticised for attending a wedding of the Chadian President's daughter last month, where President Al Bashir was also present.
Human Rights Watch sent a letter to Ban Ki-Moon to protest against the UNAMID chief's presence, seen chatting to the Sudanese President, who is also wanted for war crimes committed in Darfur by the International Criminal Court.
The letter prompted the UN to warn Gambari against similar engagements in the future.
UN guidelines state that officials should limit contact with people indicted by international courts to 'what is strictly required for carrying out UN mandated activities'.
