Khartoum/ 6/6/ Suna/ World Health Day is an annual event aimed at drawing the attention to particular priorities in global health World Health Day 2010 focused on urbanization expansion and health It also aimed at making the governments and international organizations and commercial institutions and the civil society to consider the health issue as part of the urban expansion. Assistant of the secretary of the federal ministry of public health and emergencies , Dr. Altayeb Ahmed Alsayed, said in a statement to SUNA, the celebration which coincides today the 6th of June under the theme( my city, my health and future ) comes within the framework of the World Health Organiztions celebrations by the world health day

The celebration aimed at developing the people's awareness standard by the challenges which accompany the urban expansion and the circulation for health cities as half of world's population live in the cities while one third live below the poverty line which escalate many health problems. Dr. Altayeb added that there are 16 cities in 7 states in Sudan have adopted the initiative of health cities. Meanwhile the World Health Organization called for applying health care programmes in the urban cities, with the construction of new cities comprising all the social sectors to guarantee the comprehensive social participation and the successful administration of social services to make these cities more flexible to solve the problems of catastrophes and emergencies which may happen, beside, encouraging a good urban planning and to improve the living conditions. On his side, researcher Dr. Mohamed Abdulrahman, in a paper he presented in this occasion pointed to the necessity of establishing the houses in safe areas away from the expected risks and to improve the environmental and health conditions in addition to providing clean drinking water and healthy environment

Sudan joined the international initiative campaign of 100 cities - 1000 lives", events which is organized worldwide calling on cities to open up streets for health activities. And show stories of urban health champions and illustrate what people are doing to improve health in their cities The global goals of the campaign were:1000 cities: to open up public spaces to health, whether it be activities in parks, town hall meetings, clean-up campaigns, or closing off portions of streets to motorized vehicles. 1000 lives: to collect 1000 stories of urban health champions who have taken action and had a significant impact on health in their cities. Historically, the city has been an engine of economic growth, a centre of culture, and a generator of ideas. But while human potential is infinite, resources are finite. Urbanization creates problems, but healthy cities can solve them. A billion people now live in the world's urban slums. The health sector needs to take the lead in calling attention to the enormous implications of this growth in cities for the health of the people who live and work in them .
