Vice President hands over a number of prizes to winners of Tayeb Salih awards
Khartoum, Feb. 19 (SUNA) - The Vice President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed T aha, has honored the closing Al-Tayeb Salih international Award distribution ceremony to a number of Sudanese and non Sudanese writers and authors in the domain of short story, essays and literary criticism
The Firs Award of eight thousands USD on short story was claimed by Ahmed Al Jally Ahmed from Sudan, t he second prize of six thousands dollars on same category was claimed by Amar Ali Hassan from Egypt while the third of four thousand dollars was claimed by Ismail Ghazali from Morocco
The second category in the Tayeb Salih International award, deals with literary criticism and the First prize in this category was won by Omar Ashoor from Algeria, the second was claimed by Ahmed Rayeb from Egypt, worth six thousand dollars, and the third in the second category w as won by Hassan Abashar Al Tayeb, from Sudan, worth four thousand dollars
The third category deals with Novel. The first prize was won by Saad Al Gishir from Egypt, standing at ten thousand dollars, the second prize in this category was won by al Zain Banaga, from Sudan, who went away with seven thousands and the third prize in this category was won by Mohamed al Hassan Al Bakri from Syria, who went away with a sum of four thousand dollars
The awards and the ceremony were sponsored by Zain mobile company. The Delegate Member of the company, Fatih Irwa, has pointed out that the company would see to it that this prize continues as an incentive for encouraging young talents of the nation all along the Arab world to continue with these creative arts
The ceremony was attended by the Qatari Minister for Culture Dr Ahmed Ahmed Al kawari, and an accompanying delegation attended the ceremony beside the family of the late Sudanese artist and novelist Al Tayeb Salih
Tayeb Salih reached international fame with such novels like: the Wedding of Zain, the Season for Migration to the North, and such short stories like: A Handful of Dates which were translated into dozens of languages and for which he received many an international awards
