Turkish Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Mehdi Eker said Wednesday a free trade agreement between Turkey and Sudan has to go in effect in order to ease commercial procedures.

Minister Eker met with Sudan's Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali Ahmed Karti at his office in Ankara on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters while meeting Karti, Eker said that "Turkey and Sudan must lift all obstacles for mutual trade and improve the investment climate".

There have been many visits between Turkey and Sudan recently. We have made important progress with Sudan in the agricultural field in the past 6-7 years, Eker said.

Karti, in his part, said that mutual visits have made serious contributions to Sudan.

Earlier on Wednesday, Karti was received by Turkish President Abdullah Gul and he also met with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
