The Armed Forces inflict heavy losses on remnants of the rebels in Darfur, the army continues with mopping up operations

 

Khartoum, Jan 25 (SUNA) - The official Spokesman of the Armed Forces, Colonel Sawarmy Khalid Saad, told the Sudan News Agency that on the 24th of January, the armed forces have chased away remnants of the rebel movements from the area of Tabet. He said Tuesday morning the Armed Forces continued the combing and mopping up operations against the remnants of the rebel movements of Justice and Equality Movement, the Sudan Liberation Movement Mini Arku Minawi's faction and Sudan Liberation Movement SLM Abdul Wahid Faction, as well as other outlawed elements and that the army clashed with them at about seven thirty Sudan a.m. local time in a huge battle in the area of Tabit which the Mini Movement used to consider as a free area. The spokesman said that the Armed Forces have destroyed the rebel movements in the area and seized four vehicles and destroyed six others after the rebels fled away to Tukmary area, East of Jabel Mara after sustaining sixteen dead and a huge number of injured. He said the Armed Forces then pursued the mopping up operations chasing the rebel elements to Tukmary area where they clashed with them once again inflicting heavy losses on the enemy troops and destroying five armored vehicles and killing nine rebel leaders including Abdul Rahaman Tarjook and Isahag Kijjies and a huge number of injured, currently being counted. He said the Sudanese air force participated effectively in those battles, all plains returning back to their base safe after the end of the battles. He said one helicopter which sustained a technical breakdown forcing it to land near the airport of El-Fashir and all its crew retuned to base safely. The spokesman said the Armed Forces have sustained one martyr and four injured. He stressed the armed forces would continue mopping up the area and destroying the fleeing remnants of the enemy in the area. MA/MF
