Taha and Vice - President of World Bank Review Issue of Sudan Debts

 

Khartoum, Aug. 1 (SUNA)- Vice - President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, Wednesday evening received the visiting Vice - President of the World Bank for Africa Region, Mrs. Obiageli Katryn Ezekwesili, and reviewed the issue of Sudan debts, especially that Sudan has fulfilled all the requirements for writing off these debts or alleviating them

 

In a press statement after the meeting, the Minister of Finance, Ali Mahmoud, said that the government has demanded writing off its debts due to a number of issues represented in the challenges facing the country since the signing of the peace agreements, adoption of economic and financial reform programmes and plans for combating poverty and the establishment of infrastructural projects

 

The minister stressed the importance of the World Bank support to Sudan, especially in the current stage at which the country is moving for the referendum period

 

He said that the meeting also discussed the technical assistance that can be provided by the World Bank through its economic plans and programmes

 

The minister indicated that the meeting provided opportunity for acquainting the Vice - President with the consultations and talks which were held Wednesday at the Ministry of Finance with the visiting delegation of the World Bank. MO/MO
