Sudanese held, 10 gm cocaine seized

HYDERABAD: Police arrested a Sudanese national and seized 10 grams of cocaine from his possession in Filmnagar on Thursday.

Acting on leads got through keeping tabs on peddlers in the city, a special team along with the Banjara Hills police nabbed Muataz Awad Abdullah alias Dicky, 29, a BA student of Nizam College from Phase-III of Filmnagar on Thursday morning. According to police, Dicky came to India in 2009 on a student visa and was staying in Yapral.

The special team intercepted the CBZ bike of Dicky and in the subsequent frisking carried out in the presence of gazetted officers, police found 10 grams of cocaine worth Rs 30,000 and two cellphones from his possession.

According to cops, Dicky is a close associate of arrested cocaine peddlers Bunkode Adil, a Ugandan, and Steve Roxy, a Kenyan.

According to deputy commissioner of police (DCP), West Zone, M Stephen Ravindra, Dicky fled from the city after the crackdown on drug peddlers and returned recently. A special team got information about his movement in the city again and nabbed him in Filmnagar on Thursday.

The Banjara Hills police said Dicky was suspected to be supplying cocaine to the affluent sections of Hyderabad, including some Tollywood personalities. Cases were slapped against him under various sections of the NDPS Act. He was produced before court, which remanded him in judicial custody. The case is likely to be transferred to the Central Crime Station (CCS) police, who are investigating all cocaine bust cases in the city.
