Sudan Participates at Meeting of Executive Council of IGAD Parliament in Nairobi

 

Khartoum, Aug. 25 (SUNA) - Sudan has participated at the third meeting of the Executive Council of the IGAD Parliament which was held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, with participation of the Speakers of Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda and Ethiopia. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, who represented Sudan in the meeting, said in a statement to SUNA upon return at Khartoum Airport Wednesday that the objective of the meeting was to prepare for the Conference of the IGAD Parliaments Conference, scheduled in Djibouti by the end of the current year. Al-Tahir said that he acquainted the participants on the situation in Sudan and the ongoing preparations for holding the referendum of south Sudan and Darfur issue. He said that the meeting has reviewed the situation in Somalia and the IGAD member states, adding that he met with in Nairobi with the Kenyan Vice President and the former President, Daniel Arap Moi. Al-Tahir said that the delegation held a press conference at Sudan Embassy in Nairobi and reviewed the arrangements for holding the referendum of south Sudan. It is to be recalled that Sudan delegation for the Third IGAD' Parliament's Executive Council also included the Deputy Speaker, Atim Garang, and Chairman of the External Relations Committee at the National Assembly, Mahdi Ibrahim.
