Referendum Commission: 98.83% Southerners Voted for Separation

 

Khartoum, Feb. 7 (SUNA)- South Sudan Referendum Commission Monday evening held a press conference at the Friendship Hall at which it announced the final result of the referendum, in the presence of a number of federal ministers, presidential advisors, ministers of the Government of South Sudan, representatives of international and regional organizations and ambassadors accredited to Khartoum

 

Chairman of South Sudan Commission, Prof. Mohamed Ibraim Khalil, pointed out that the result of the referendum was 98.83% for the separation of south Sudan and 1.17% for the unity

 

He explained that 3,851,994 southerners have registered for voting in the referendum, adding that 3,792,518 of them voted for the separation and that 44,888 voted for the unity

 

Meanwhile, Prof. Khalil said that the commission was able to conduct a genuine, credible and transparent referendum and did not receive any appeal against the referendum result

 

He called for continuity of the relations between the North and the South for realizing the common interests between the two countries
