President Al-Bashir Affirms Holding of Refrendum in Fixed Date, Calls on International Panel to Carry out its Role Neutrally
Khartoum, Oct. 14 (SUNA) - President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al Bashir, has affirmed the keenness for holding the referendum in the fixed date, with full neutrality and fairness to reflect the desire of the citizen of southern Sudan
He called in his meeting Thursday at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers with the International Referendum Monitoring Panel, headed by Mr. Benjamin Makba, on the committee to commence its role in full neutrality
Chairman of the International Monitoring panel to meet the aspiration and the will of the different Sudanese parties for realization of the spirit of the comprehensive peace agreement (CPA)
He explained that the committee has drawn the general map for its work and meetings for making the referendum process a success
Mr. Makba reviewed the results of his meetings and discussion with the officials of the national unity government and the Government of South Sudan on the issues of implementation of the peace agreement and carrying out the referendum and the financial and logistic requirements
Meanwhile, the permanent representative of Sudan to the United Nations, Dafa'alla Al-Haj, said in a press statement that the international panel has received a briefing by the President of the Republic on issues concerning the implementation of the referendum process, referring to the confirmations made by the committee to commence its role in integrity and neutrality
