Police Forces Issues Statement on Illegal Assembling of Umma Party Elements, their Closure to Main Street and Throwing to Stones on Police
Khartoum, Dec. 24 (SUNA)- The Police Forces Friday evening issued a statement on the illegal assembling of a group of the National Umma Party elements before the party's headquarters at Al-Mawrada Street in Omdurman and their closure to the major street raising banners denouncing the government
The statement said that the group refused to open the street before the traffic and managed to throw stones on the policemen, a matter that necessitated the interference of the Operation Police to contain the illegal assembling and riot for protecting the citizens' safety and security
According to the statement five persons of the group were lightly injured, besides the wounding of a policeman
The statement indicated that the Police Forces adopted the required legal measures and filed a legal complaint against the illegal assemblers under the articles 63, 67, and 69 of the Criminal Law
The statement went on to explain that the Secretary General of the National Umma Party convinced the assemblers to avoid undermining the public safety; therefore they peacefully went of the party's headquarters without being confronted by the police force
SUNA adds that this incident came when the country is entering the stage of voting in the referendum on the future of south Sudan, scheduled on February 9, adding that the same incident coincided with statements given by the leader of the Umma Party, Saddiq Al-Mahdi, through which he called for formation of a national government, otherwise he will join circles that aim to overthrow the government
SUNA also adds that the incident in Omdurman also coincided with an attack staged by a group of armed rebel movements on Daral-Salam Locality in North Darfur State with the aim to terrorize the citizens and carry out robbery and looting acts, besides the battles between the Armed Forces and the Alliance of Darfur rebels at Shangli Tobaya area in south Darfur where the Armed Forces inflicted heavy losses in lives and equipments on the rebels
