Minister Deng Alor Announces Southern Sudan Braces Better Future Preparing its Statehood

 

Washington DC February 14, 2011: H.E. Deng Alor, Minister of Regional Cooperation, Government of Southern Sudan will conduct a briefing outlining the current state of affairs in Southern Sudan on Tuesday February 15, 2011 at 1:30PM/EST at the National Press Club (First Amendment Lounge) in Washington DC.

The purpose of the session is to bring US private sector, civil society and Sudanese Citizens currently residing in the US up to date on advancement ad preparation following the announcement of the Referendum Results on the 7th of February 2011.

The Government of Southern Sudan has established a technical team to work on a �Transitional Constitution� that will embody a solemn commitment to democracy, pluralism, the rule of law, freedom of thought, belief and expression. Southern Sudan will soon become the newest country in Africa and the World. GoSS is calling upon all men, women of good will to participate in the genesis of a nation.

Min. Alor will cover specific areas of interest to include; rural transformation, health, physical infrastructure, peace, national and the rule of law. This is part of a broader and more comprehensive 20/40 framework which will be released next month. He adds � �The fact that the referendum was held on time, and was conducted peacefully is a major achievement. It was a concrete demonstration of the capabilities and the maturity of the citizens of Southern Sudan.�

H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit President of the Government of Southern Sudan has been pressing a critical message to World Leaders �The resolution of all outstanding issues is essential to maintaining stability and progress throughout Sudan and the Region, while we may proceed along separate paths, both North and South have a joint responsibility to all the peoples of Sudan to guarantee a peaceful and prosperous future. We desire the democratic transformation of Sudan.�
