Meeting of Ministerial Council of the Desert Locust Control Organization for East Africa begins in Merowe

 

Merowe, Nov. 25 (SUNA) - The meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Desert Locust Control Organization for East Africa (DLCO-EA) has begun Thursday in Merowe with the participation of five member states of the Inter-governmental Authority for Development (IGAD)

 

The meeting was chaired by the Federal State Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Mohammed Ali Alouba, in presence of the Commissioner of Merowe, Mohammed Abdullah and the Directors of the Departments of Protection of Plantations in the various states

 

The State Minister addressed the session, welcoming the African Ministers in Sudan, affirming that Sudan always works to improve agriculture and to remove all the challenges facing the advancement of the agricultural activity

 

He also commended the role being played by the DLCO-EA toward the control of the desert locust and to combat the Pesticides and renewed Sudan's readiness to cooperate with the organization

 

The meeting further discussed the budget for the coming year and the plan of the DLCO-EA

 

It is to be noted that the DLCO-EA was established by an International Convention signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1962. The Headquarters are located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and it has country Liaison Offices or Control Reserve Bases in all the Member countries, which are represented by the Ministries of Agriculture/Livestock, are Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda
