Kiir and Taha Discuss with Mbeki Issues of Peace and Referendum

 

Khartoum, Nov. 14 (SUNA)- The First Vice - President of the Republic and President of the Government of South Sudan (GoSS), Salva Kiir, and the Vice -President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, Sunday met at the residency of Kiir with the Chairman of the African Union Panel on Sudan, Thabo Mbeki, and discussed the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA)

 

After the meeting, Mbeki said in a press statement that the two partners, the National Congress and Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), began special negotiations pertinent to the framework agreement for solving the controversial issues in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the post-referendum issues

 

He said that formulation of the framework agreement is about to be finalized, explaining that the framework agreement deals with the issues of the borders between the north and the south, the referendum, security and the post-referendum issues

 

Mbeki said that the two parties agreed on discussion of Abyei issue at the Presidency level, adding that the two parties have determined to achieve solutions for the controversial issues at the Presidency level after the return of the President of the Republic from the Hajj
