Foreign Minister returns home after taking part in UN Security Council Emergency meeting in New York

Khartoum, November 18 (SUNA)- The Minister of Foreign Relations, Ali Ahmed Karti, returned to Khartoum evening today after taking part in the emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the process of the Implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the question of Darfur

The Minister has pointed out in press statements upon arrival at Khartoum airport that a substantial progress has been made on the ground with regards to the question of South Sudan referendum, and the need to reach a peaceful settlement to the issue of Abyei. He referred to the positive stands of the international community when it condemned the rebel movements in Darfur that declined to sit for a negotiated settlement to the issue in Doha Forum

Karti has expressed Sudan's appreciation for the statement issues at the end of the meeting that was void of any condemnations as was the use in the past in similar circumstances

The minister was meanwhile critical of the British stand which deviated from the conciliatory tone prevalent during the session and after the meeting called for by the UN secretary General on the 24th of last September

He reaffirmed Sudan's rejection and clear stands towards the International Criminal Court. He said the final statement has underlined the need for participation of all rebel movements in Darfur in the efforts underway to resolve the crisis in the region

It is to be noted that 15 representatives standing for the international community as well as representatives of the National Congress party and the Sudan people liberation movement took part in the meeting beside the US president via phone
