EU sends observers to monitor Sudan registration for referendum

A EU delegation of 16 observers will deploy in Sudan next week to monitor voter registration for the January poll on south Sudan independence. "It is the first time that the European Union will observe a voter registration process," Middle-east-online.com quotes a statement in the Sudanese capital as saying. It also says that in mid-December an EU observation team headed by Veronique de Keyser will deploy ahead of the actual referendum. Registration will last from November 15 to December 1. The upcoming referendum is a part of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) that ended a 22-year civil war in Sudan.
