Dr. Obeid Phones GoSS Information Minister to be Informed on Conditions of Four Press Correspondents
Khartoum, Oct. 7 (SUNA) - The Minister of Information, Dr. Kamal Obeid, Thursday evening made a phone call with the Minister of Information in the Government of South Sudan (GoSS), Barnaba Benjamin, to be informed on the conditions of the team of press correspondents who were subjected to mistreatment by security elements belonging to the United Nations at Juba Airport, while they were accompanying the visiting delegation of the Security Council
SUNA learned that elements of UN security have seized the camera of Reuters at Juba Airport and mistreated him, a matter that made the other press men show solidarity with him and to refuse continuing the tour with the Security Council delegation to Darfur and to protest the ugly treatment done against them by the UN security elements
The four correspondents were the cameraman of Reuters, Mohamed Nur-Eddin, the BBC correspondent, Al-Tayeb Siddiq, the Correspondent of XINHUA, Fayez Al-Zaki, and XINHUA cameramen, Mohamed Yousif
The four correspondents refused the attempts to dissuade them from their position and decided to return to Khartoum on Friday
