Dr. Al-Jaz gives directives for allocation of areas for cultivation of groundnut and sunflower crops
Khartoum, Feb. 10 (SUNA) - The Minister of Industry, Dr. Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz, has given directives to the committee of the oil sector in coordination with the federal Ministry of Agriculture to determine big areas for cultivation of groundnut and sunflower crops
He also called for importation of modern technologies and improved seeds to accomplish maximum productivity of oil seeds as inputs for the vegetable oil factories to meet the needs of the country for edible oil which reached 240,000 tons
Dr. Al-Jaz got acquainted with the plan of the committee for 2011 aiming at realization of self-sufficiency for the oil commodity
The Managing Director of Kenana Sugar Company, Mohamed Al-Mahdi Al-Tejani, announced the starting of sunflower harvesting in Al-Rahad Agricultural Scheme at an area of 35,000 feddans
He pointed out that the committee of the oil sector held meetings with the Ministers of Agriculture in the Northern and Nahrel-Nil States for allotment of areas to be cultivated with groundnut and sunflower crops in the winter and summer seasons
