Announcement of Kurdufan initiative to establish the
African Green Belt on Tuesday
AL-Obied / 4/4 /2011 / SUNA / the declaration of Kurfufan
initiative for the establishment of the African Green Belt will be launched in
Alobied tomorrow
The belt length is 1000 K.m starting from Khartoum and extending till the
Sudanese Chadian borders and considered as the biggest forest belt in Africa
Director of the DDR commission in northern Kurdufan , Dr. Alzain Tairab
explained that the cost of this project amounts to 15 billion SDG and covers the
area lying between latitudes 12 and 16 north in a total area of 20 000 square
K.m , extending from Khartoum passing through the White Nile and Northern
Kurdufan and Northern Darfur states and ending at the Sudanese Chadian borders
in western Darfur state. The belt length is 1000 K.m and its width is 20 K.m
He added that a meeting will be held on Tuesday by the participation of
the ministries of culture in Khartoum , North and Western Darfur , the White
Nile and Northern Kurdufan states , besides a number of scholars, experts , and
the international organizations concerned by forests and desertification issues
The meeting will review a number of the issues regarding this initiative
