Al-Degair Appreciates UK role in boosting peace process in Sudan
Khartoum, Nov.2(SUNA)- The Minister of International Cooperation and member of the government delegation for Addis Ababa negotiations on Abyei, Dr. Jalal Yousif Al-Degair, has stressed the important role of Britain in narrowing the differences between the parties in Abyei issue and demarcation of the border between the north and the south
He also asserted importance of the participation of Britain in the coming donors conference for development and rehabilitation in east Sudan, which is scheduled to be held in next December in Kuwait
This came when Al-Degair received Tuesday the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Sudan, Nicolas Kay
He referred to the historic and firm relations between Sudan and Britain in all domains, explaining that Britain has provided a development aid of 74 million dollars to Sudan within period 2005 - 2007, besides ithe humanitarian assistance that it has extended to the war-affected areas and financing development projects in the health, educational and environment fields
On implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the Minister referrred to necessity of surpassing the obstacles facing the demarcation of the borders between north and south Saudan and Abyei issue
Meanwhile, UK Ambassador has described his country's relations with Sudan as strong and progressing, saying he is doing his best to strengthen the relations between Khartoum and London in all domains
Dr. Al-Degair, meanwhile, discussed with the Country Director of Sudan and Somalia at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency aspects of joint cooperation between Sudan and Sweden and ways of boosting then further
The Minister appreciated Sweden assistance to Sudan through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency
He appreciated the effective role being played by Sweden in the development and peace fields in the country
