Urgently Promoting Peace and Security in Abyei and throughout Sudan

Rally: Hope for Abyei

Date: Friday, March 18, 2011

Time: 9:00am - 12: 00 Demonstration In-front of Sudan Embassy 2210 Massachusetts Ave

12:00 5:00PM Capitol Hill, Washington, DC (West Front Grassy Area)

Panel Discussion:

Date: Saturday, March 19, 2011

Time & Location: TBD

Background:

The Government of Sudan is internationally known for its merciless quest for an Arab Islamic State through destruction and annihilation of ethnic groups in the Sudan. To amalgamate power and wealth, the Government of Sudan purposefully engages in destructions and displacements of indigenous populations of Sudan in order to steal land resources, and to eliminate resistance to its ridiculous vision.

The latest and most dangerous manifestation of the Governments strategy is occurring now in Abyei. Internationally recognized agreements pertaining to Abyei are being ignored. Violence and destruction in Abyei is widespread, and peace throughout Sudan is threatened.

The President of Sudan knows too well that Abyei belongs to South Sudan, yet has chosen to pay a deaf ear to the unprecedented killings going on in the Abyei. The people of Abyei have spoken decisively that they historically and culturally belong to the South. As a matter of urgency, it is imperative that the world stands up against the genocidal practices on the people of Abyei as they seek justice and an enduring peace.

Purpose of the Rally:

The purpose of the rally and the panel discussion is to highlight and expose the uncovered, raging situation currently taking place in Abyei. Ethnic cleansing is going on in the Abyei! The international community ought to know that the people of Abyei have suffered enough and the world cannot afford ignore such occurrences. During the rally, as well as the in conference, the Diaspora from Abyei will represent their family members and friends who are dying, suffering and being displaced by Khartoum and its bandits.

This is an urgent appeal to diligently deploy all resources and support to ensure the full implementation of Abyei Protocol before the expiration of the interim period of the CPA.
