Too many Hats you wear but no Peace for Darfur Mr. Amin Hassan Omer!

By Mahmoud A. Suleiman

Amin Hassan Omer, the head of the government delegation to Doha Darfur peace talks and the State Minister at the Presidency has, over and above, appointed himself Attorney General issuing judgements against the Radio Dabanga office, the arrests of advocates for
democracy. Amin Hassan Omer was reported as threatening the workers in the Radio Dabanga with doom and gloom as if he were the Attorney General of Sudan, the wonderland that has been under the totalitarian rule of the Islamist National Congress Party (NIF/NCP) regime. It is one of the bizarre ironies that we hear and see everyday in this era which gives birth to the weirdest happenings! We know that the number of Ministers and State Ministers in the Cabinet of the so-called National Unity Government (NUG), following the rigged general elections in Sudan, is an Astronomical figure of (77), 35 Ministers and 42 State Ministers! The 2010 Sudan presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Sudan from
11 April to 15 April 2010 (extended from the original end date of 13 April. Without doubt there will not be enough ministries for many of those Ministers and State Ministers.  Understandably and not surprisingly, some State Ministers, like Amin Hassan Omer remain virtually unemployed (redundant) or in what is termed Unemployment in Disguise! It is a public purse stolen and walked off with the hard earned cash! As well they are entitled to privileges such as a tied car, housing allowance and other benefits. Money wasted without return! All this is attributable to lack of commitment to transparency, accountability, public service ethics, rule of law and good governance; salient feature of a failed state.

Amin Hassan Omer - State Minister at the Presidency and head of delegation to Darfur peace talks is expected to focus most of his conscious time on the monumental task of the negotiating process with the Parties to reach a sustainable peace in the war-torn, poverty-stricken region. But he chose to prevaricate contemptuously with air of arrogance to buy time and shuttle travel between Doha and Khartoum to serve own affairs without giving damn care to the destruction that happens to Sudan on daily basis and at every moment. His main focus seems to be to ensure that the daily travel allowance (per diem) paid to him is to continue uninterrupted even if that is at the expense of loss of lives and livelihood of the displaced and the refugees who are supposedly his fellow compatriots of  the same beloved country, Sudan!

One is certain that President of the NCP Marshal Omer Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir is more preoccupied with the predicaments of his indictment for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide by the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague than the fate of the Sudan which is expected by many analysts, during the remaining period of the year 2010 and the beginning of 2011 in which potential fragmentation of the largest country in the continent of Africa into warring miniature states and Balkanisation of the region. Observers indicate that had it not for his preoccupation and his complicit criminal cliques hate for the people of Sudan in Darfur, al-Bashir could have said, if wise enough, enough is enough; Darfur must get its rights right now before tomorrow!. That is an imagined perfect state of things, it is a Utopia, the country folk thought!

Last but not least, will Amin Hassan Omer watch his language and pay more attention to the enormous task he is assigned to? That is the SIXTY FOUR DOLLAR QUESTION ($64 Question) awaiting Deeds before Words!!
