Sudan’s Omer al-Bashir Sabotages the Darfur Peace Prospects in Doha

By Mahmoud A. Suleiman

The Sudanese autocratic dictator, President Omar Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir is a political phenomenon, a very strange individual who refuses the thing to accept it a few moments later. His character continues unabatedly unsettled and will remain boastful, though nervous at all times. Unfortunately, he has dragged Sudan into a dilemma after dilemma and to dead end locally, regionally and internationally. Thus, the head of the National Congress Party (NCP) Omer al-Bashir became a costly burden on the troubled People of Sudan. But worse of the worst is the repulsive hibernation and silence which his crew of cabinet ministers and the army of advisers; they  are more than a hundred mute demons remaining speechless, and if they spoke their words were full of filth, hypocrisy and misguidance. This megalomaniac political zealot has quashed all the political opponents and opposition. Al- Bashir is responsible for the deaths of millions of Sudanese and has been a fugitive criminal since he was indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide he committed in Darfur. Omer al-Bashir’s phenomenonneeds to be studied in depth for a remedy or a treatment and more importantly to lift the country out of the never-ending vicious circle. During the trances of his bouncing back and forth dancing, at rallies of his supporters, the NCP leader would make fiery statements, without thinking of their consequences which often bring with it dire consequences for the country of Sudan and the neighboring countries and along with the derailment of the diplomatic relations and more shame to the name of Sudan in international forums and humiliation to the people.ListenRead phonetically

Not surprising to anyone who knows al-Bashir, he announced that he will withdraw his government delegation from the Doha Darfur peace process if no agreement deal is struck by Thursday the 30th December 2010. As expected, he was addressing a group of his cronies in the South Darfur city of Nyala for a sham reconciliation conference between tribes in the region;which is part of the failed falsehood of the so-called domestication of peace or the Mbeki-Ghazi decoction peace from within! He said that while his mandate less delegation to the Doha Peace talks was running a dialogue through the host and the mediator with the Alliance Resistance Forces (ARF) Darfur rebel group for ways and means that may lead to the cessation of hostilities/ ceasefire. By doing so, Omer al-Bashir has driven a wedge in the way of peace that does not exist already. Here, Omer al-Bashir can be named the Cock on the Household Utensils” or “a Bull in a Porcelain Warehouse” as the Sudanese People mockingly used those words and phrases for labeling the behaviour of the late President Marshal Jaafar Mohammed Nimeiri, who was another military dictator and renowned for his blunders of not paying any attention to the globally accepted diplomatic norms! Omar al-Bashir's actions reflect on the extent of the desperation that he feels, and which will not save him from his responsibility to effectively paying the dues of peace for the people of Sudan in Darfur and Kordofan, and the rest of the population of Sudan. And he has to wake up to abandon his continuation in the way of committing an error after an error and repent before it is too late when the expression of regrets and apology would Confer him nothing.

It is pathetic that a great country like Sudan to be ruled by such mindless depots while the political community continues fragmented and the country has been promised with possibility of Balkanization through the very behaviour of Omer al-Bashir and his racist fundamentalist National Congress Party (NCP) clique who have made unity unattractive for the people of Sudan in the Southern region to opt for the expected cessation on Sunday the 9th January 2011 referendum stipulated by the Naivasha agreement, the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

The issue of Darfur continues without a solution mainly due to the intransigence of the Government of the racist National Congress Party (NCP) regime which finds pleasure in the long-suffering of the people of the region. This suffering seems to be paying dividends to Omer al-Bashir’s authoritarian rule to remain in power while the international community stays divided in dealing with the crisis in view of conflicts of interest within the ranks of the five permanent members of the Security Council (UNSC) in United Nations Organization.

The deliberate acts and behaviour of Omer al-Bashir in the city of Nyala are aimed to wreak havoc on Darfur peace prospects. This is not surprising if one looks at the record of this conspiratorial National Islamic Front (NIF) clique which is known for their acts of sabotage and their fame for non-fulfillment of the commitment to implement signed peace agreements.

The statement reported by the News Media and related to the Egyptian official, Mustafa El-Figi, that the Sudanese government headed by Field Marshal Omar al-Bashir as the worst in the history of Sudan is considered by political analysts as the bitter truth. And no wonder, here, observers pass a comment that another witness has come out to give testimony from within the ranks of the clan!

Nevertheless, the recent reported Statements by the gallant sons of the Bargo, Bornu, al-Hawazma tribes of southern Kordofan and the important statement of the leaders of the Nuba Mountains and along with that of  Amir of the Rizeigat tribe in the National Capital Khartoum to join the ranks of the Alliance of Resistance Forces (ARF) has given the greatest hope and strength to the ability of the people of Sudan’s revolution to overthrow the hateful apartheid gang of the National Congress Party (NCP) government to rid the Sudan and its people of the scourges of wars that are waged by totalitarian military governments and hopefully, then,  our  People and the coming generations to enjoy taste of life. The people in the camps for the Internally Displaced Person (IDP) and Refugees and those in the Diaspora assertively indicate that in spite of the long suffering, Unification of the resistance is the only way to victory against the arch-enemy the National Islamic Front (NIF) or National congress Party (NCP) in all their pseudo-denominated names. Let us unite and Let US UNITE should be our motto! And may I take this opportunity to congratulate myself and the people of Sudan, the freedom fighters, on the Fifty-Fifth Anniversary of the Independence of our beloved Country. Long live our struggle for justice, equality, liberty, and Emancipation and better future.
