The Family of Prophet Ngundeng Bong has withdrawn its endorsement of Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth

For Immediate Public Release

The Family of Prophet Ngundeng Bong

April, 25, 2009

On March, 30, 2009, the family of Prophet Ngundeng issued a press release endorsing Representative Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth as a future Nuer leader. As custom, the family of the Prophet has a practice that any endorsement of public figure must go through three stages. First, the endorsement has to be made known. Second, a bull has to be sacrificed to Deng (God of Ngundeng). Three, the elders have to interpret the signs from the bull to determine the position of the spirit on that particular individual and explain what the spirit said.

On April, 22nd, the second stage was conducted at Bieh in Waat by the elders. A bull was speared and felt upside down and rolled three times while its head pointed to its tail. The bull cried for thirty minutes staring at Bieh (the divine pyramid of the Prophet). The next day on April, 23rd, the elders who performed the ritual told the family that Deng (God of Ngundeng) has rejected Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth. They said the signs signified that Lol Gatkuoth’s future in South Sudan is very miserable because he has currently engaged himself in disuniting the people of South Sudan by creating enmities between Nuers and Dinkas. The elders also said that Ezekiel Lol is neither working for Nuer welfare nor for the common interest of the people of South Sudan. But he is a negative force that angered God because his actions are contrary to peace, harmony and unity among the people of South Sudan. The elders also said that the Nuer community should distance itself from this human being.

Based on the message of spirit interpreted by elders at the second stage, the family of Ngundeng is therefore informing the entire Nuer community that it has withdrawn its endorsement of Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth. The family urges all Nuers to stop supporting him immediately. He has been found unfit to become a leader of any kind in South Sudan, let alone Nuer community. He has no future as far as Deng is concerned and the community should distance itself from him effective from today.

The family of Prophet Ngundeng is also calling upon all members of South Sudan communities, including the political leaders of the South, to evaluate their relationships with Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth. The elders at Bieh warned that any person in South Sudan who has a relation with him will experience problems that may forfeit their future. The family seriously advises the leaders of the South to review their dealings with him if they want the Government of the South (GoSS) to function smoothly.
