Two Egyptian Soldiers of UNAMID Killed in South Darfur
Khartoum, May 7 (SUNA) - The United Nations and African Union Mission for Darfur (UNAMID) announced that two Egyptian soldiers of its force were killed in South Darfur State
In a release it issued Friday said that an unknown armed group suddenly opened fire on an Egyptian battalion of the UNAMID near Katela village in south Darfur, killing two Egyptian soldiers and seriously injuring three others
The mission's release said that the aggressors escaped when the UNAMID responded to them, adding that the injured Egyptian soldiers were taken to the UNAMID Hospital in Nyala city, the capital of South Darfur
Meanwhile, the joint representative of the UN and African Union Mission for Darfur (UNAMID), Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, strongly regretted the aggression against UNAMID soldiers, stating that the UNAMID peace-keepers came to Darfur to help reaching peace and stability in the region
He said that this aggression will not dissuade the UNAMID from continuing its commitments and tasks to boost peace in Darfur
