Tripartite Mechanism to Meet in Addis Ababa Monday

 

Addis Ababa, May 9 (SUNA)- A meeting of the tripartite mechanism of the government of Sudan, the African Union and the United Nations is due to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Monday to discuss the progress achieved with regard to the commitments of the three parties within the mandate given to the United Nations -African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID)

 

The Director of the Department of Peace at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and member of Sudan delegation for the meeting, Ambassador Mohamed Abdalla Idris, said that the mechanism will review reports of heads of the delegations of the three parties on their commitments toward the hybrid operation in Darfur

 

Ambassador Idris explained that the deployment of the hybrid forces has reached more than 90%, adding that the mechanism will also discuss any impediments facing the operation

 

He described the tripartite meeting as very important in a view that it comes after the elections process in Sudan, to which the UNAMID has contributed with considerable assistance. It is to be noted that the Sudanese side is chaired by Gen. Magzoub Rahama while the African Union side is chaired by the Commissioner of Peace and Security at the African Union, Ramatane Lammamra, and the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Alain Le Roy
