Thapo Mbeki inquires about Findings of Border Demarcation Committee

 

Khartoum, May 11 (SUNA) - Chairman of the African Union Panel on Darfur and former South African president,Thapo Mbeki, has asked the Border Demarcation Committee on the findings achived in the various stages of the demarcation of the border between north and south Sudan as well as on areas on which the two sides disagree

 

This came when Chairman of the Demarcation Committee, Professor Abdalla Abdul-Majid, was received by Mbeki at his residence in Al-Fatih Tower Hotel in Khartoum Tuesday

 

Meanwhile, Abdul-Majid said in a statement to SUNA following the meeting that he presented a detailed report to the Chairman of the African Union Panel on Darfur in response to his questions, explaining that the process of the border demarcation in the eastern part between the north and the south is progressing very well and that 25% of the plan will be implemented on the ground during the coming weeks to complete the demarcation work in November, which is exptected to witness lower levels of rainfall. He said that there are areas in which the two sides differ regarding the demarcation, indicating that this issue was reported to the presidency. He referred to the possibility to overcome this problem which is confined to some areas
