Sudanese Student Among Two Killed In Accident At Jasin

 

JASIN, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Two people, including a student from Sudan, currently pursuing a PHD in Civil Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Johor, was among two killed in an accident at the Jasin/Merlimau exit of the North South Expressway Wednesday.

Jasin police chief DSP Che Suza Che Hitam said during the accident that happened at about 7pm, Sami Mahmoud Eldoum Hassan, 34, seated inside the van, died at the spot.

"Van driver Nabil Fikri Hamidon, 24 who suffered serious injuries died on the way to the district hospital," he told reporters here Thursday.

Another passenger in the van who was seated next to the driver, Afif Abdul, 23, has been admitted to the Tangkak Hospital, Johor.

Che Suza said the UTM van which was heading towards Johor Baharu, rammed into the rear of a trailer which was moving very slowly on the left hand side of the road.

Meanwhile, a UTM spokesman when contacted said the student was returning to his campus in Skudai after collecting research material from Kuala Lumpur.

"The student was from Khartoum and his body would be taken to UTM before being sent to Sudan," he said.
