Sudan Participates in Global Campaign to Eradicate Polio in Africa
Khartoum, Mar. 23 (SUNA) - Kick Polio out of Africa, an International campaign to raise awareness about polio eradication in Africa, is due to be held Wednesday in Sudan as launched by the former President of South Africa as part of the activities of the World FIFA Cup 2010
In this regard, the federal Minister of Health Tabitha Boutros announced the commitment of her Ministry to declare Sudan free from polio as part of the Sudan's health policies at the federal and state levels as well as the local communities
She added that the campaign aims at realization of the eradication of polio from the world, referring to the importance of political commitment and making use of media and involvement of leaders of public opinion to raise the awareness of vaccination of children against polio
She revealed that Sudan Wednesday will be receiving the soccer ball of Kick Polio out of Africa via the DHL, coming from Ethiopia, to travel to Central Africa, Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone before finally going to Canada in June for Rotary International's annual convention
The Minister thanked the international partners, including the WHO, UNICEF, Rotary Club, DHL and the Disease Centre in Atlanta
