Security Council Appreciates Sudanese Elections and Affirms its Commitment to Boost Sudan Unity

 

New York, April 30 (SUNA) - The Security Council has appreciated the recent elections in Sudan, and affirmed the importance of implementing all the clauses of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA)

 

In its sitting Thursday, the Security Council renewed its commitment to support the unity of Sudan and the sovereignty of its lands, independence and integrity. The Security Council also decided to extend the mandate of the UN mission to Sudan (UNMIS) for another one year that ends on April 30, 2011

 

The Security Council asked the UN Secretary General to continue providing the Security Council with reports every three months on the implementation of UNMIS mandate and the progress achieved in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA)

 

Meanwhile, Sudan envoy to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdul-Mahmoud Abdul-Halim, said that the Security Council affirmed the importance of work by all the parties to make unity as the attractive choice

 

He said that the Security Council also underscored the importance of strengthening to the confidence between the two partners of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the cooperation between them for implementing all the items of the peace agreement

 

Ambassador Abdul-Halim has welcomed the declaration of the Security Council to its commitment to boost Sudan unity and regional integrity, indicating that this commitment copes with the orientation of the government and its continuous efforts to make unity as the attractive option
