Secretary of the Museums affirms completion of preparations to hold exhibition of Merowe civilization at Louvre Museum in next March

 

Khartoum -Jan. 10 (SUNA) - The Secretary the Department of Museums at the Sudanese National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums, Dr. Abdul-Rahman Ali Amin, affirmed that preparations have been completed for holding the exhibition of Merowe Civilization in the Louvre Museum in Paris from March 24 till September. He said in a statement to SUNA that some 200 pieces of Antiquities, 100 of them from inside the Sudan and the other 100 Sudanese pieces from the international museums were selected by a joint committee of the corporation of Sudanese Antiquities and Museums and the Louvre Museum to be shown at the exhibition. He pointed out that the selection included pieces of gold, silver, pottery, stones and mud antiquities. Dr. Al-Amin indicated that the exhibition deals with various aspects of the Merowitic Civilization: in the fields of arts, religion, archaeological excavations, particularly the pieces which were found through the French excavations. He said that the exhibition will be accompanied by a detailed show in French and Arabic languages and will be attended by national and foreign specialists, mainly French. He said that exhibition will be accompanied by cultural events and lectures about the Sudanese civilizations that are organized in cooperation with the Sudan Embassy in Paris. He said that the opening ceremony will be attended by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Mr. Mohamed Yousif Abdalla, and the General Manager of the Sudanese National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums, Dr. Hassan Hussein Idris, and a number of specialists in this domain.
