Prof. Gambari Affirms UNAMID Support to the Negotiations for Realizing Peace in Darfur
Doha, Feb. 24 (SUNA)- The joint representative of the United Nations and African Union, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has affirmed importance of the framework agreement, which was signed Tuesday in Doha, for realizing peace in Sudan
Addressing the ceremony held for the signing of the framework agreement between the government and the Justice and Equality Movement in Doha, Prof. Gambari expressed the welcome of the United Nations and the African Union of the agreement, regarding the framework agreement as important step for reaching a permanent and comprehensive peace in Darfur
He said that the UN and the African Union are giving top priority for boosting the negotiations
Prof. Gambari said that the UNAMID is encouraging the transfer from the stage of humanitarian aid to the phase of development, appreciating the initiative of the Emir of Qatar for establishment of Darfur Development Bank
He especially lauded the role of the Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed bin Abdalla bin Mahmoud and the joint mediator of the UN and the African Union, Djibril Bassole, for achieving peace in Darfur
He hoped that the coming days and weeks will witness more successes for realizing peace in Darfur region
Prof. Gambari said that the UNAMID is determined to support the implementation of the agreement signed by the government and the Justice and Equality Movement as well as the coming agreement for the sake of reaching durable and comprehensive peace in Darfur. MO/MO
