IGAD Mission Lauds High Professionalism of Elections Commission despite Challenges
Khartoum, April 18 (SUNA) - The IGAD team for monitoring the elections in Sudan has appreciated the efforts of the National Elections Commission for holding the general elections in Sudan despite the logistic impediments that faced the voting process
At a press conference of the IGAD mission at Coral Hotel Sunday, member of the mission, Ambassador Yousif Nezibu, said that they felt a high sense of professionalism and cooperation with the observers during the polling process
He said that the National Elections Commission in Sudan was able to surpass the biggest challenge encountering the elections commissions in Africa and world-wide which is enabling the biggest possible number of people to practice their democratic right of voting by identifying their personalities, adding that the Sudanese Elections Commission was able to overcome this issue by forming local committee to know the voters' identities
He also praised the extensive participation of women in the elections as members of non-governmental organizations
He also appreciated the high level professionalism of the local observers, adding that their meeting with the members of the National Elections Commission enabled the IGAD team to be aware about their big capability to solve the logistic and technical difficulties as well as educating the voters
Ambassador Yousif said that the National Elections Commission has supplied the observers with the required information, especially with regard to the polling places, lauding the role of the security organs in securing the elections
