Gration Reviews with UNAMID Ways to Boost Peace and Stability in Darfur
Al-Fasher, May 6 (SUNA) - The US envoy for Sudan, Scott Gration, Thursday arrived in Al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, and held a meeting with the acting representative of the UN and African Union Mission for Darfur (UNAMID) Chairman of the mission, the Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs and the UNAMID Commander
A press release issued by UNAMID indicated that the meeting discussed the optimum means to prop up the efforts of Sudan government and the concerned parties toward guaranteeing continuity of the peace process and realizing stability in Darfur
The meeting also reviewed ways of implementing programmes for boosting reconciliation and development in Darfur
The US envoy then visited the model Sowelnga village near Al-Fasher city and met with representatives of the organizations operating in the humanitarian aid field in Darfur before return to Khartoum
The UNAMID indicated that Gration would leave for Addis Ababa Friday to participate at meetings of the African Union concerning implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and Darfur peace agreement
