Government and Liberation and Justice Movement Sign Framework and Ceasefire Agreement

 

Doha, Mar. 18 (SUNA) - A framework cease-fire agreements were signed Thursday morning in Doha by the government and Movement for Liberation and Justice, in the presence of the Vice - President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha. The Presidential Advisor and Official of Darfur File, Dr. Ghazi Salahuddin, signed for the government, while Dr. Al-Tigani Sessi signed for the Movement for Liberation and Justice

 

Addressing the signing ceremony, Taha conveyed the thanks and gratitude of the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, and the government and people of Sudan to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, for his hosting to the forum of Doha for peace in Darfur and for his continuous efforts to make a success the peace negotiations

 

Taha described the signing of the framework agreement as a strong boost to the efforts for achieving peace in Darfur, affirming the commitment of the government go ahead in its efforts to reach a lasting peace in Darfur

 

He said that the government delegation is fully authorized to negotiate about all details

 

Taha referred to the Donors Conference for Rehabilitation and Development in Darfur in Cairo on March 31 in Cairo, appreciating the role of all the countries and parties which contributed to supporting the peace process in Darfur

 

He expressed thanks in this regard to the Libya Leader, Muammar Al-Qaddafi, the President of Egypt, Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King, Abdalla bin Abdul-Aziz, the President of Chad, Idris Deby, lauding also the efforts of Eritrea, the African Union, the Arab League, the fiver permanent member states at the Security Council in boosting the peace process and the rehabilitation and development in Darfur

 

Taha also lauded the initiative of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, for his decision to establish the Fund for Rehabilitation and Development in Darfur with a capital of two billion dollars, and also for his contribution to the convocation of the Donors Conference for Rehabilitation and Development in Darfur, which is scheduled to be held in Cairo by the end of current March

 

The ceremony held for the signing of the agreement was attended by the joint mediator of the UN and the African Union, Djibril Bassole, the Foreign Minister of Chad, Musa Fakki, the Foreign Minister of Eritrea, Osman Salih Mohamed, a representative of the Libya Leader, the Commissioner of Peace and Security at the African Union, Ramadane Lammara, and the representative of the Arab League, Samir Hosni
