Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Allam said in his keynote address to the inaugural session of the meetings that was held in Sharm El Sheikh on April 13th 2010 that Egypt and Sudan have suggested the establishment of a higher commission for the Nile Basin with the aim of attracting investments for encouraging development in the Basin States.

He said the commission will have negotiations on all lingering issues in the Nile Basin States framework agreement with the aim of maintaining unity of the Basin and achieving the development which is urgently needed by the people's of the region.

Allam further said that Egypt is relentlessly working for better relations among the Nile-basin countries, not only in the water sector, but also in various fields like education, scientific research and capacity building.

Speaking of the accomplishments made by Egypt during the chairmanship of the Ministerial Council, Minister Allam said Egypt stressed the importance of collective move and encouraging development projects in the Nile Basin States.

He referred to the visit by Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Nazif to Ethiopia to explore opportunities of investment in Ethiopia and other countries like Uganda and Tanzania. (SIS)
