Dr. Nafie: National Congress is Adherent to the Elections and Keen for Alliance with SPLM

Khartoum, Jan. 12 (SUNA)- Assistant of the President of the Republic and Deputy Chairman of the National Congress for the Party's Affairs, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, has affirmed the National Congress is adherent to holding of the elections. He said at a press conference Tuesday that the National Congress will accept the choice of the people whatever it is, hinting in this regard to the possibility of alliance between the National Congress and Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) under the keenness for implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and maintaining the unity. Dr. Nafie said that the existing atmosphere and dialogue will enable the two partners to surpass the pending challenges and holding the elections in alliance, adding that the National Congress is keen to achieve alliance to pave the way for more stability and to guarantee the unity of Sudan. He welcomed in this regard the clear signals being reflected by the SPLM, adding that the National Congress is basically standing for the implementation of the peace agreement even if it was not linked to the alliance. He stressed that the line is clear for holding the elections, completing the interim period and giving the people of south Sudan the full freedom for self-determination, calling for a strong campaign to stress the importance of unity and to warn from the disadvantages of the separation. Dr. Nafie said that the relations between the two countries are currently in their best conditions following the ratification of laws, adding that the National Congress is appreciating the trend of the SPLM about holding of the elections. He pointed out that holding of the elections will pave the way for realizing stability, conducting the referendum and providing a bigger opportunity to call for unity. MO/MO
